3CSN Equity 101 Online Course Begins – Spring 2020
California Community Colleges are experiencing a critical moment of transformation through demands to integrate programs, create Guided Pathways, and revise ESL, English, and Math pathways via AB 705, and equity is foundational to all of these initiatives. What we need is a space to inquire into teaching and learning perspectives for equity and opportunities to mindfully and intentionally reflect on our core beliefs and practices within education.
3CSN is launching Equity 101, a 7-week online course, intended to create a space for educators to learn some of the many teaching and learning perspectives for equity, and to reflect, collaborate, and deepen our practice as educators.
Equity is praxis (reflection in action upon the world to transform it); equity is the result of on-going inquiry into our theories and practices, and at its core is the goal of social justice.
This is not a how-to-equity class; rather, it’s a place for educators to inquire into effectively facilitating learning and success for diverse students, engage in praxis, and build a community of learners with the intent of achieving equity for our students.
Course dates: February 3-March 22, 2020.
Texts: Provided in the course.
Platform: Online Canvas course with optional Zoom meetings. (Please note: this is not a self-paced course; over the 7 weeks, we’ll have 7 different modules that we’ll move through as a cohort.)
Hours to complete: 53
Certificate: Upon successful completion, participants will get a certificate to verify hours completed.
In this class, we will learn teaching and learning perspectives for equity; inquire into how we can effectively facilitate learning and success for diverse students, engage in reflection and action for transformation (praxis), and build an intentional community of learners.
Upon completion of this course, participants will:
- Learn equity teaching and learning perspectives, theories, and practices.
- Use dialogue, inquiry, praxis, and community to integrate equity into, and deepen, one’s practice as an educator.
